2020 "Must Have" Players for Fantasy Football

Writer's picture: Vincenzo SciacquaVincenzo Sciacqua

If You follow me on twitter (@Vince_ffb) you know that I've been spending this entire offseason hyping up a lot of players, but none more than these four guys. All these players are "My Guys" because you can draft every single one of these guys after round 3 and in my opinion there's a ton value from these players. These are the guys I will not leave a draft without.

Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams.

For those who like to wait on a quarterback and try to find the values in the Double Digit rounds, Jared Goff is the perfect option. Goff is Currently being drafted in the 13th round. There is some serious interest around the Fantasy Football world about Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods both being top 15 receivers and Tyler Higbee being a top 10 TE. What I don't understand is if everyone loves all the weapons in a high powered Sean McVay offense then why is Jared Goff being so undervalued? Goff was a QB2 or better 69% of the time last season. The Rams threw the ball 626 times which was good for the most in the League and averaged 40.9 attempts per game. With the guaranteed volume Goff has it's easy to see why he threw for 4639 yards and had two 1,000 yard wide receivers. The touchdowns should go up from 22 in 2019 (32 in 2018) and if he can come close to the 2018 total he can easily be a top 5 quarterback that you got as the QB19 on draft day.

Raheem Mostert, San Francisco 49ers

Mostert will always be remembered for what he did against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship game where he took 29 carries for 220 and 4 Touchdowns. Raheem Mostert’s regular season wasn’t that bad either with 137 carries for 772 yards and 8 Touchdowns and added another 14 catches for 180 yards and 2 more scores. The 49ers were one of the best rushing offenses in the game and it showed with Mosterts 5.64 yards per attempt and his 12 breakaway runs (rushing attempts that go for more than 15 yards) which was 6th in the game. Mostert was a big play guy all year and had 8.8% of his runs go for more than 15 yards, that's more than any one in the NFL. The 49ers offensive line was great last season and they got even better this season by replacing a retired Joe Staley with All Pro Left Tackle Trent Williams. Every opponent the 49ers played knew they were going to try to run the ball as much as they could (31.1 attempts per game, 2nd in NFL)  and that led to Mostert facing a stacked front on 29.9% of his carries (7th in NFL). The 49ers receivers have been ravaged by injuries in the early stages of Training Camp which could lead to more passing work for Raheem Mostert especially with Matt Breida, who the 49ers traded to Miami on Draft day, leaving behind 36 targets and 21 catches. Mostert is currently being drafted in the 5th round and I find that a major robbery. He could easily have 200 carries this season which would certainly get him over 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Robert Woods, Los Angeles Rams

I know I talked about Woods’ Quarterback already but he is actually the main “Must Have” Player for me. It was mentioned earlier that the Rams threw the ball 626 times and Woods saw 139 targets last season which led to 90 catches for 1134 and only 2 touchdowns. This is great involvement in a high powered offense who isn’t afraid to throw the ball 50 times in a game. The 2 touchdowns are disappointing but the last two seasons he's had 5 in 2018 and 6 in 2019. Woods is currently going as the WR17 with a 4.07 ADP. Goff can support two 1,000 yard receivers and with an expected uptick in touchdowns Woods has a legitimate chance to be a top 10 receiver this year and you can get him as a WR2. Todd Gurley was cut and that left behind 49 targets and was replaced 2nd round draft pick Cam Akers. It‘s a murky backfield situation but it could end up being a good thing for the receivers. If the run game isn’t producing McVay could lean on Jared Goff even more than he already does and Goff has already shown he trusts Woods in every situation.

Hayden Hurst, Atlanta Falcons

Hayden Hurst was traded from the Baltimore Ravens to the Atlanta Falcons this offseason in hopes the replace Austin Hooper. Hurst is a great athlete who was a first round pick was actually drafted before Mark Andrews. In 10 games last season Austin Hooper racked up 787 yards and 6 touchdowns on 75 catches (97 Targets). Hurst has the opportunity to step in and continue what Hooper produced and is currently being drafted as the 8th TE off the board in the end of the 7th round. Thats a good price to pay for a TE with legit top 5 upside in a high powered passing offense. Hooper took advantage of defenses needing to focus on Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley and Hurst should do the same. Hooper saw 97 targets in only 13 games and Hooper finished as the TE6. If Hurst played 16 games and sees the target volume Hooper did it could lead to an 80 catch season. If you miss out on the top 3 TE's Hurst is a guy you should target in round 7-8 and you can get some of the same production from Hayden Hurst.
