The biggest question in Fantasy Football this season isn’t how Newton will play under Bill Belichek or if Lamar Jackson can continue to run through NFL defenses... It’s how the Fantasy Owner will have to deal with the uncertainty COVID-19 will bring on a weekly basis. It looks like we won’t know if a player is out until 90 minutes until kickoff. So what do you do? Do you draft backups and handcuffs instead of depth to have an insurance policy? Here are some ways to be ready for what’s going to happen.
-Turn on your Twitter notifications for accounts that you trust. Every time that account tweets or retweets anything you will get them directly to your phone.
-Pay attention to all the teams depth charts so you know who to pick up if that time comes. Since you’ll only have 90 minutes to pick up a player, speed is going to be key when trying to find your replacement.
-Make sure you always have a spot open or know who you will drop. This also hits on the speed aspect from the last point, but if you have to debate within yourself on who to drop it might be too late.
Commissioners around the Fantasy circles will also have a tough time reacting to what happens. League Managers will have to talk to their league to change settings such as waivers and roster settings. Some things you can do as a commissioner would be to add 2 extra IR spots or even add two roster spots to help with the depth issue we are bound to run into. The topic of League Buy-In will be a confusing one for everyone involved. What we will be doing in one of my personal leagues is that if the season is canceled at any time, the Team owners will have the option to get their money back or use it towards the 2021 season.
I will be trying my absolute best to be on top of all the opt outs and positive tests to help you get the information and advice that you will need to pick up the right players. Follow me on Twitter @Vince_FFB for draft advice, Start-Sit, and more in season help.
