Upside Play Pick Em: Week 3

Writer's picture: Ryan MobleyRyan Mobley

Last week we had a slight drop off with every writer going either 4-2 or 3-3. Five of the six games chosen last week ended in a one possession game. The Falcons late game collapse to the Cowboys at ‘Jerry World’ combined with a massive Raider’s upset over the Saints showed us the 2020 season is young and anything can happen in the NFL. This week's slate is going to create some separation in the standings, 5 of the 6 matchups showcase a 2019 playoff team. If you wanna check out our week 2 picks click the link below for Upside Pick Em’ Week 2.

Current Standings:

#1 Ryan (9-3)

#2 James (8-4)

#3 Vince (8-4)

#4 Zach (8-4)

#5 Patrick (7-5)

#6 Maher (7-5)

Thursday Night Football: Dolphins @ Jaguars

This is the best bet for the snoozer of the week but our Pick Em’ segment will include every prime time game all year. With that being said, how can you hate Gardner Minshew? The stache combined with 6 TD’s in two games has some Jaguars fans optimistic about the 2020 season. The Dolphins have had two tough opponents to start their season but have held their own against both. Fitzmagic turned it up a little last week with over 300 yards in the air but Miami’s defense hasn’t looked sharp so far, giving up 31 last week to Buffalo. The line currently sits at Jaguars -3, O/U 48.

James: Jags

Vince: Jags

Zach: Dolphins

Patrick: Jags

Ryan: Jags

Maher: Jags

Houston Texans @ Pittsburgh Steelers

The Texans had easily the toughest opening two games in the NFL as they faced off against two AFC juggernauts in the Chiefs and Ravens. They’re taking on a 2-0 Steelers team with a top tier defense in week 3. Houston needs to establish a run game early if they want to avoid an 0-3 start to 2020, as they only mustered 51 yards on the ground in week 2. This is the first true test in 2020 for the Steelers, James Connor had a fantastic 6.6 yards per rush last week ending with 106 Yards and a TD. Pittsburgh has done their job through 2 weeks, but the strength of schedule hasn’t been the highest so far, this team still has some question marks heading into week 3. The opening line is Steelers -4, O/U 45.

James: Steelers

Vince: Steelers

Zach: Steelers

Patrick: Texans

Ryan: Texans

Maher: Texans

Los Angeles Rams @ Buffalo Bills

The First 2-0 matchup on this week's slate showcases a Rams defense who hasn’t given up 20 points in a game this year vs a Bills squad who is averaging 29 PPG in 2020. The Rams have surprisingly had a solid running game so far, they produced 191 yards on the ground last week against Philly and 153 in week 1 against Dallas. LA’s defense forced two picks last week and has been swarming early on. Buffalo has looked dangerous on the offensive side of the ball, star QB Josh Allen has 5 TD’s, 0 Interceptions, and has done damage running the ball as well. Giving up 28 to the Dolphins last week wasn’t the best look, Buffalo will need to tighten up defensively this week to remain undefeated. The opening line is Buffalo -2, O/U 47.5.

James: Rams

Vince: Bills

Zach: Bills

Patrick: Bills

Ryan: Bills

Maher: Bills

Dallas Cowboys @ Seattle Seahawks

The Cowboys just might have the comeback of the year in the bag already and it's only week 3. From down 20-0, to one of the strangest onside kicks I've ever seen, to a game winning field goal sending Jerry Jones half an inch into the air (Impressive for Jerry), last week was an absolute thrill ride in Dallas. Dak had 450 through the air with one TD passing and 3 TD’s on the ground to lead the Cowboys to a 40-39 victory. The Seahawks offense has been scorching hot averaging 36.5 PPG, star QB Russell Wilson already has 9 TD’s and has been nearly perfect for Seattle. The current line is Seattle -5, O/U 55.5.

James: Seahawks

Vince: Seahawks

Zach: Seahawks

Patrick: Seahawks

Ryan: Seahawks

Maher: Seahawks

Sunday Night Football: Green Bay Packers @ New Orleans Saints

Aaron Jones went absolutely nuts last week for the Packers scoring a total of 3 TD’s with 236 all purpose yards against the Lions. Rodgers has looked great so far with 6 TD’s, 0 Interceptions, and 604 total yards through the air going into week 3. The Packers have looked great both weeks against two divisional opponents. The Saints had A major hiccup against the Raiders on Monday Night Football. The penalties have been a huge problem for the New Orleans defense, and they got torched by Derek Carr and Darren Waller all night in Vegas. The good news is Kamara got it going last week and all pro Michael Thomas could potentially return sunday night. The current line is Saints -3.5, O/U 52.5.

James: Packers

Vince: Packers

Zach: Packers

Patrick: Packers

Ryan: Saints

Maher: Saints

Monday Night Football: Kansas City Chiefs @ Baltimore Ravens

This is the ultimate example of, “Save the best for last” as we see the Defending Champion Chiefs take on the Ravens and reigning MVP Lamar Jackson. The Chiefs couldn’t get the running game going last week against the Chargers like they did on opening night against the Texans. They still snuck away with an OT win but the champs were very close to taking an early L against a rookie QB. Mahomes season numbers look great so far with 5 TD’s, 0 Interceptions, and he producers 54 on the ground in week 2. The Ravens have been absolutely lights out through two weeks with blowout victories in both games. Lamar Jackson leads the team in passing and rushing yards, the MVP hasn’t skipped a beat in 2020. The Baltimore defense has forced a turnover in both games and is giving up an average of 11 PPG. The current spread is Ravens -3.5, O/U 53.5.

James: Chiefs

Vince: Ravens

Zach: Ravens

Patrick: Chiefs

Ryan: Ravens

Maher: Chiefs
