Every year we look at our rosters in May or June and we talk about the stars and studs that are in our starting lineups just for them to be ineffective or injured by week 6. The real stars on our rosters come in the form of late round picks and waiver wire adds. Just check the last couple years, we had Elijah Mitchell, James Robinson, Robert Tonyan and Darren Waller come from end-of-draft Dart Throws to legit fantasy producers very quickly. I’ve put together a list of a couple players I have been grabbing everywhere due to the path to relevancy being clearer than most of the players being drafted around them.
So let's get into my favorite Dynasty Dart Throws:
Hayden Hurst, TE, Cincinnati Bengals
We have had Hurst’s name in the back of our brains for a while now but this off-season he joins a Bengals roster who lost CJ Uzomah. Hurst walks into a great situation with Joe Burrow, Ja’Mar Chase and Tyler Boyd but the Bengals still have aboput 70 vacated targets available. We know Hurst won’t be a top 5 or even top 10 Tight End but he should be a good TD dependent option for those who stream the position. A great player tied to a great offense is exactly what you want to look for when selecting a player at the beginning of the 17th round (via Underdog fantasy)
Zamir While, RB, Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders spent a 4th round pick for Georgia running back Zamir White who comes into what looks to be a crowded RB room as of now. The Raiders recently declined the 5th year option on Josh Jacobs so that leaves Zamir White and 7th round draft pick Brittain Brown as the only two players on the books for 2023. White, who was a 5 star recruit coming out of high school, led the National Champion Georgia Bulldogs in rushing attempts, rushing yards and touchdowns over the last 2 seasons. White would be the immediate early down runner if Josh Jacobs has to miss any time (Which we’ve seen already with Jacobs missing at 2 games every year so far). With a current ADP of 17.06 as the RB64 this pick could have early impact but this one has eyes on the 2023 season and beyond.
Velus Jones Jr., WR, Chicago Bears
Velus Jones Jr. is a rookie WR from Tennessee that the Bears took in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft. Beat reporters have been talking him up since the selection once they found out that GM Ryan Poles and Justin Fields watched film on Jones Jr. together and Fields really liked what he saw. Jones is a fast and electric receiver who can make plays with the ball in his hands and take the top of the defense with this 4.31 speed. His last season at Tennessee was his best as we saw him catch 62 of 83 targets (75% Catch rate) for 807 yards and 7 touchdowns. That was his true breakout year and we could see him grow even more with a clear depth chart in front of him and confidence from his Head Coach and Quarterback. Currently going at 18.09 in Underdog Drafts as the WR99, Velus Jones Jr. is the perfect Dart Throw to add to your roster as he has no risk at that ADP but holds tremendous upside.
Eno Benjamin, RB, Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals let Chase Edmonds take his talents to South Beach and re-signed James Conner to a 3 year deal to start the NFL Off-season. We saw the Cardinals use both of these RBs effectively last year and it could be more of the same in 2022. James Conner has yet to play a full season in the NFL and 2021 was actually his career high in games played with 15. Benjamin is the clear handcuff here and with a player in front of him who can be labeled as injury prone, taking Benjamin at his RB76 price tag at the beginning of the 19th round could easily turn into a major steal. Like I said with Hayden Hurst, at that point of the draft adding a player who is tied to an explosive offense who has seen a RB have success in multiple years is a no brainer.
